Privacy
Short version: audio and video never leave your device, the session record holds nothing that could lead back to you, and there are no cookies.
Microphone
No. The microphone only measures loudness, in the browser, and that audio never leaves your device. Nothing is recorded and nothing is uploaded — and the room works without the microphone too.
The browser measures loudness only — a number saying how strong the sound is right now. From that number the room works out how many seconds you laughed. The sound itself is never written to a file and never sent anywhere. Permission is asked for inside the room, on your click, and the room works if you decline.
Camera
The camera is off until you turn it on yourself. When you do, the picture goes only into the tile on your own screen — it is not recorded, not sent, and nobody else sees it.
The people in the room
They are generated. Not recordings of real people, and nobody is watching you from the other side. That is exactly why it works: the room is full and you are alone in it. None of them can see or hear you, because there is nobody on the other side — no person and no server listening.
What is stored
When a session ends, one record is sent. Not during the session, once, at the end. It holds:
- interface language and how the room was rendered,
- whether the energy came from the microphone or from a timed curve,
- the microphone outcome (granted, denied, dismissed, dead device),
- seconds of laughter and session duration,
- whether you are returning, how many days this week, which session in order,
-
the rating at the end (good or strange), if you gave
one, and
feedback_text— free text up to 200 characters, if you wrote any.
That record holds no identifier. No name, email, account, IP address, or any number that would tie two of your sessions together. Whether you are returning, and how many days this week, is worked out on your device and sent as a plain number.
feedback_text — free text
If you write a sentence in the feedback field at the end, it is stored in
the field called feedback_text. It exists for one purpose: to
show when the room felt unpleasant or strange to someone, which is the one
thing the numbers cannot show.
- Anything that looks like an email address, phone number or link is rejected before it is written. If that check fails, the field is stored empty — not as sanitised text.
- It is kept for 90 days and then deleted automatically.
- It is not tied to you or to your other sessions.
Deletion — what is not possible
This has to be said plainly rather than left out: a request to delete an individual record cannot be carried out. The record holds no identifier, so there is no way to find yours among the others — not for you, and not for us. That is a consequence of storing nothing about you, not an excuse for not deleting.
A record with free text disappears on its own after 90 days anyway. A record without it is a set of numbers that says nothing about you.
What stays on your device
The browser's localStorage holds a few things that exist only
so the product works: whether you have seen the intro, how many days this
week you were in the room, the session count, and which arrangement of
faces you were given. None of it leaves the device. Clear the site data and
it is gone.
Cookies and analytics
No cookies, and no tracking between visits. Page views are counted by Cloudflare Web Analytics, which works without cookies and without a visitor identifier.
Waiting list
If you leave an email address to be notified, only the address, the time and the language are stored. Nothing else, no profile, nothing shared with third parties. It is kept for 12 months and then deleted; before that it is deleted on request, because an email address is exactly the identifier the rest of the product does not have.
Where all of it sits
The site is served from Cloudflare, and session records sit in Cloudflare's key-value store. Fonts and video come from the same domain — no external service is called while you read this page or while you are in the room.
